What is a PLY file?

PLY is a simple 3D file format that stores points, with values such as colour attached to each one. Many scanning and photogrammetry tools export point clouds as PLY.

A PLY file can also hold Gaussian splats instead of a plain point cloud. The Lite Viewer opens both kinds. Measuring on splats is not available yet. See the Gaussian splat viewer page for more.

How it works

  1. Go to 3dviewer.spatialsense.app. There is no sign-up screen.
  2. Drag and drop your PLY file into the window, or try a sample.
  3. Measure, clip a volume and leave comments.
