NCR in Construction: The Failure Needs a Spot
The non-conformance is real. The photo in the report does not show which riser it is.

A non-conformance report says the work does not meet the spec. Quality teams and resident engineers write them all the time. The report fails when the location is a sentence like "level 3, near the riser" and the photo has no context. The next person cannot find it, or finds the wrong one.
NCR construction
NCR construction is the quality record raised while the works are still open. The NCR report names what failed, where, and what must be corrected. SpatialSense holds the pin and the two dates. A person writes the NCR report and signs it closed.
The pin is not the punch item
You can pin an NCR on the same 360° walk you use for a punch list or a snagging list. That does not make them the same document. A punch or snag is work still owed under the contract. An NCR is a break against the specification, with a required correction. Keep the NCR number in your quality log. Point it at the pin.
Close it with a second date
Walk the spot when you raise the NCR. Walk it again after the correction. The two dates are the before and after. A person signs the NCR closed. The software does not.
If the failure is also a design question, raise an RFI on the same pin. If it changes the contract, it becomes a variation.
Frequently asked questions
What is an NCR in construction?
An NCR, or non-conformance report, records work that does not meet the specification. It says what failed, where, and what must happen before it is closed. It is a quality record during the works, not only a handover list.
Is an NCR the same as a punch list or a snagging list?
No. A punch list or snagging list is unfinished or defective work, often near completion. An NCR is a formal non-conformance against the spec, and it can be raised any week of the job. The pin on the walk can serve both. The documents stay separate.
What closes an NCR?
The corrective work, checked by someone other than the person who did it. A second walk of the same spot, dated after the fix, is the check. SpatialSense does not close the NCR for you.
Who raises an NCR?
Usually the contractor’s quality staff or the resident engineer. The report needs one location and one owner. A 360° walk gives the location.
