Method Statement: Show the Work, Not Only the PDF

The method was approved. The question on site is whether this week’s work followed it.

A method statement tells the site how a task will be carried out. UK, Malaysian, and Gulf contracts ask for one before work starts. The document is often approved and then ignored, because nothing links it to the floor on the day.

The statement, then the evidence

The method statement still gets written by the people who own the task. Sequence, access, protection, hold points. SpatialSense does not generate that document. What it adds is the walk at the start of the task and the walk at the hold point, on the same route, so a consultant can see the work that the statement described.

Where this word is used

Method statement is the working phrase in the UK, Malaysia, and the Gulf. Do not retitle this for a US "means and methods" search and expect the same reader. If the outcome of the task is a defect, raise it on the snagging list or as an NCR. If the method has to change the contract, that is a variation order.

What not to claim

This is not a safety system and not automatic hazard detection. A person walks, pins what they need to show, and sends the record with the method statement. The page ends on a demo of one live task, not on a template download.

Frequently asked questions

What is a method statement?

A method statement says how a task will be done: sequence, plant, people, and controls. UK, Malaysia, and Gulf projects ask for one before the work starts. It is a method, not a progress report.

How do you prove the work followed the method statement?

Walk the task while it is open and walk it again at the hold point. The two dated views show the sequence that actually happened. They do not replace the method statement. They sit behind it.

Does SpatialSense write method statements?

No. Your engineers write the method. SpatialSense keeps the walks that show whether the site matched it.

Is this a permit or a safety system?

No. Hazard detection on building walks is not a live feature. A method statement page here is the record of the work, not a permit-to-work system.
